Hot Sauces #106 – 114 – Hot Sauces of April 2014

Roosters' Hot SauceIn addition to the sauces I reviewed earlier, I added these 9 new hot sauces from restaurants and groceries to my list in April.  Here they are with a few pictures and a few notes.

April was a productive month for hot sauce hunting. I seem to find new hot sauces to collect everywhere I went this month.

April 2014 Hot Sauces

Tapatio Salsa Picante Hot Sauce

First there were a couple I found in the Mexican Aisle of my local Kroger.

  • Hot Sauce #106 – Pico Pica Real Mexican Style Hot Sauce
  • Hot Sauce #107 – Tapatio Salsa Picante Hot Sauce

Next, I found another couple while eating wings with my family (My Mom loves fried chicken wings!) at two different restaurants.

Hooters' Hot Sauce

  • Hot Sauce #108 – Hooters Hot Sauce with Tabasco Peppers
  • Hot Sauce #109 – Roosters Original Table Sauce

Although I have enjoyed this next sauce for years (it’s one of the very earliest sauces I ever tried), I haven’t bought a bottle in years. I saw this bottle on the table of North End Cafe and decided it would taste excellent on my omelet. It did.

Cholula Original Hot Sauce

  • Hot Sauce #110 – Cholula Original Hot Sauce

Then there are these 3 from 2 different Mexican restaurants.

Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce

  • Hot Sauce #111 – Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce
  • Hot Sauce #112 – Qdoba Mexican Grill Salsa Rojas Hot Sauce
  • Hot Sauce #113 – Qdoba Mexican Grill Habanero Hot Sauce

Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce is another sauce that I have enjoyed many, many bottles of. At one time, back when hot sauces were hard to find and few and far between, this was my favorite sauce.

Lastly, we have what is easily the star of this show – Chili’s Honey-Chipotle Sauce.

We don’t eat at Chili’s — or any chain, for that matter — too often. But I am tempted to go back soon an often just to get this sauce.

The sad truth is that most “chain” sauces — whether it is BBQ sauce, hot sauce, tarter sauce, steak sauce, whatever — are just not very good.

It actually quite understandable really — consider that a national chain restaurant has to please tastes in cities and small towns all over the nation — from Maine to California and Washington to Florida — or even all over the world.

And that’s just impossible.

Take a common hot sauce, for instance.  A heat level that would please a Texan or someone from New Orleans would be way, way too hot for most people in Iowa.  A good mustard in New England would never please someone in Denver. And consider that there are 1,000’s of varieties of hot sauce, BBQ, mustard, gravy, steak sauce, tartar sauce, etc.

So, most chain restaurants do not have very good sauces.

That is why it is a wonder and delight to find one like Chili’s Honey-Chipotle Sauce.

If you haven’t tried it, I urge you to do so as soon as you can.
