Blair’s Heat Jalapeno Tequila Exotic Hot Sauce

Blair’s Hot Sauces are well-known among hot food lovers and chileheads.

But with names like Original Death Sauce, Sudden Death Sauce, Sweet Death Sauce and even Mega Death Sauce, they are NOT known for being subtle.  In fact, as you may guess, Blair’s signature sauces fall into the super-hot category.  They use pepper extract to concentrate the capsaicin (the chemical in peppers that make them “hot”) to a degree that makes them far, far, FAR hotter than any natural pepper.

His “Reserve” series is considered by many to be among the hottest sauces ever made.

They are so hot that you actually have to sign a waiver before purchasing them.

Reserve Product Disclaimers:
Purchaser of Reserve products hereby acknowledges the intense heat factor of this product and the element of danger if misused. This product is over 100 times hotter than a jalapeno pepper and is a complex blend of fresh peppers and extracts. This product is not a sauce, but a food additive and should be used as such only. Furthermore, it should be clearly understood that this is used strictly at the purchaser’s risk.

So it came as something of a surprise when, a few years ago, ol’ Blair introduced a new line of 4 handmade, exotic-ingredient sauces that were high on flavor and low on heat.

Even so, Blair couldn’t get away from his roots — he calls them Blair’s Heat Collection.

When the 4 new sauces in Blair’s Heat Collection first came out about 6 years ago, I bought the Heat Sampler – a collection of four 2 oz bottles – one of each sauce.

All 4 flavors in Blair’s Heat Collection are:

  • Jalapeno Tequila
  • Chipotle Slam
  • Habanero Mango
  • Wasabi Green Tea

Of the 4, this one, Jalapeno Tequila, was my least favorite.  Why did I buy a full-sized bottle of it?  To be honest, it was 6 years ago and when I saw it at the store I couldn’t remember if this one or the other green sauce, Wasabi Green Tea, was my favorite.

It was the the other one.

Oh well.

To be fair a quick and dirty look around the web shows that I am definitely in the minority.  For many, if not most, people this seems to be their favorite of the four sauces.  Some even go so far as to call it the best green sauce ever.

I just don’t see it. Please let me know what you think.

It’s made with jalapenos and tomatillos.  It’s got a nice garlic and cilantro flavor.  But I don’t taste the tequila at all.
