Hot Sauce #82 – Heartbreaking Dawns Lemon Ice Aji Pepper Sauce Review

I found so many uses for this sweet pineapple hot sauce that my bottle was empty in less than a week.

All the vendors at Weekend of Fire 2013 were wonderful. I enjoyed each and every booth. But if I were forced to pick my favorites, Heartbreaking Dawns along with Race City Sauce Works would probably be the ones. Every person I talked to behind every table was friendly and sweet, but these two booths are pushed to the top of my list by their wide selection of outstanding sauces. Friendly, knowledgable conversation about hot sauces while sampling outstanding hot sauces, is a winning combination any day.

Heartbreaking Dawns Lemon Ice Aji is a sweet sauce, dominated by pineapple flavor, with just a touch of heat from the Aji peppers. This is the first time I have experienced Ajis, so I can’t speak to the taste of those. Overall the sauce has a wonderful taste — but it is mostly from the pineapple.

It is not very hot and has a sweet and sour sauce-like consistency.

I used this sauce on pretty much everything I ate in the past week. Without thinking about it, I found myself reaching for the bottle over-and-over until, as you can see in the photo, it was empty all too soon. I slathered it on wings, of course, spread it on a chicken sandwich, mixed with with mayo as a dip for fries and tator tots and mixed it with BBQ sauce for my pulled pork. I am sure I would have used it even more if I hadn’t run out.

The one thing I wanted to try it on but didn’t get the chance is ice cream. No worries. I will get another bottle. Soon.

Based on the simple fact that I tore through this bottle in a week without trying, I have to give this a 5 in both taste and usability. That’s for me and your mileage may vary. But if you like sweet sauces and pineapple, I believe you will love Heartbreaking Dawns Lemon Ice Aji.
