Hot Sauces #115 – 129 – May 2014 Hot Sauces
In May I added 15 New Sauces to my Count – Including 7 from a Big Lots Collection, 3 from the Supermarket, 3 from a Food Truck, 1 from a Heath Food Store … and 1 from a Farm.
7 From a Collection…
I got this at Big Lots.
Diner Hot Sauce Collection
- Hot Sauce #115 – Jalapeño Heat
- Hot Sauce #116 – Kickin’ Cayenne
- Hot Sauce #117 – Ragin’ Habanero
- Hot Sauce #118 – Mexican Style Diner
- Hot Sauce #119 – Garlic Habanero
- Hot Sauce #120 – Jalapeño Lime
- Hot Sauce #121 – Blazing Chipotle
3 From the Super-Market…
- Hot Sauce #122 – Gringo Bandito Green Sauce
I found this a Kroger recently. I can only assume it is new to them as I had never noticed it before.
A glance at their website shows that they sell 2 kinds of original sauce, red and green, and a handful of “specials.” The Green Sauce was the only one on the self her in the ‘Ville. I checked.
I love this little note on the back of the bottle:
- Hot Sauce #123 – Cholula Chili Lime
It took me several days and many tastings before I finally figured out what this tasted like.
Fruit Loops.
That is NOT a good thing.
Cholula really dropped the ball on this one. It doesn’t have a fresh lime juice taste. It has that chemical-y, ambiguous citrus fruit flavor you get in cheap candies and cereals. There undoubtedly are chileheads who do eat hot sauce on their cereal, but I ain’t one of them.
- Hot Sauce #124 – Franks Red Hot
This is another of those sauces I have had numerous times over the years. It is my son’s favorite sauce, along with Sriracha, so we always have a bottle or two. I just realized when I picked up this one that I hadn’t yet counted it.
Now I have.
3 From a Food Truck…
Okay, food trailer, actually.
We finally found it open after trying no less than 4 times over the past couple months. It was worth the wait. The 4 tacos we had — all different — were amazing. I will need to go back though — they were out of beef tongue.
The sauces were all very good, too, and nice additions to the tacos.
As far as I can tell, like Los Gorditas and Los Caballos, these sauces do not have any names…except:
- Hot Sauce #125 – Dark Green Hot Sauce
- Hot Sauce #126 – Light Green Hot Sauce
- Hot Sauce #127 – Red Hot Sauce
1 From a Health Food Store…
I found Dick’s On Fire Jalapeño Sauce at a local health food store, Rainbow Blossom. Hot sauce as health food. I love it.
It’s very good. So good in fact that I destroyed the whole bottle before I remembered to take any more pictures or review it. Unfortunately, when I went back to the store to get more, it was gone.
I looked on the internet but can’t find a website or evidence that it even existed. This may be the only time and place we see it. That’s a shame.

…And 1 From a Farm
Yelp. A farm.
On a nice warm May Kentucky weekend we made the trip down to Shelbyville and visited Gallrein Farms to get some early produce and I picked up a hot sauce. They actually have several that are new to me, so I expect to get more this summer.
You can tell by the photo that I loved my first one.
Just read the name and you’ll understand why. I don’t need to say anything else.
