Hot Sauces #392 – 395 – Whole Foods Finds and a Big Lots Teaser
Whole Foods and other natural groceries are good places to get hot sauces.
Natural groceries and health food stores don’t usually have a large selection of hot sauces — but the sauces they do have you may not have ever seen anywhere else. Many of these stores carry hot sauces (and other products) that are specially formulated to be as healthy as possible. Check out this ingredient list on the back of Whole Foods Market 365 Extra Hot Habanero Hot Sauce. Notice the word “Organic” used multiple times.
In addition, you can frequently find sauces from local and regional producers, like the ones I have gotten at Whole Foods in Chicago (Hot Sauces #356 – 358 – Summer Trips – Chicago and Burkesville and Hot Sauces #248 – 261 – Annual Trip to Chicago) and at Rainbow Blossom in Louisville (Hot Sauces #115 – 129 – May 2014 Hot Sauces).
All four of the sauces today were found at Whole Foods Market, Louisville.
Melinda’s Original Red Savina Fiery Hot Pepper Sauce
Although I have enjoyed Melinda’s hot sauces for years (Loooooong before I started this website and started counting), I had never seen this version before.
Apparently, this new sauce adds the very hot red savina habanero pepper with the same ingredients that are in Melinda’s signature Original Habanero Sauce. The red savina is a “newish” strain of the popular habanero pepper that clocks in at 577,000 scoville units, more than twice as hot as the regular habanero and 65 times as hot as the jalapeño. This sauce is tasty, but extremely hot.

Whole Foods Market 365 Extra Hot Habanero Hot Sauce
This sauce is not bad. It has a lot more taste than I usually expect from a store-brand or a habanero sauce. You won’t be disappointed if you pick up a bottle of this sauce.

Sky Valley Sriracha Sauce
This is my second favorite sauce of the bunch today and one I can see entering my normal rotation.
In fact, it has. I have a brand new bottle and I have written am writing a review of Sky Valley Sriracha Sauce.

Ninja Squirrel Sriracha Hot Sauce
This is far and away my favorite hot sauce of the bunch. It’s one of the best I have tried in a while.
It has already found a permanent place on my shelf and I have will have plenty more to say about it — in my review.
